Week 26

Week 26 is here already! Technically I’ll be in week 27 in 2 days…just shows me how fast time is flying by!

Here’s the money shot.

On Friday I took the gestational diabetes test. Basically when you’re around 26 weeks pregnant you go into the lab, drink this drink,

And then you wait an hour, then they draw your blood. If you pass, nothing changes, but if your blood sugar is over 140, you have to do the test again. Except the second time you have to do it 3 times, so 3 hours, and 3 blood draws. I’m hoping I pass and it’s not a thing.

I had lunch with my mom on Saturday, which was really nice.

We stopped at this little ice cream shack on the way home. They have homemade ice cream, and they put a freshly made waffle on top.

My mother’s boyfriend was very impressed! Hehe!

This morning I went for a walk with Miss Jessica.

I had to burn off some of those waffle calories. And I also had a realization that I needed to start tracking my calories with My Fitness Pal. I’m on there, my name is Tiffersknees. Look me up! I stepped on the scale this morning and know that I need to be more aware of my caloric intake.

And the nursery is really coming together.

There are a few more things I need to do with the walls, but I’m feeling good about the superhero bedding.

So I’m looking into getting a treadmill from Craigslist. I figure most people who are selling their treadmill probably haven’t used it much, and is in good condition, and I can get it at a good price. I’m not in a huge hurry, but I’m thinking when I go on pregnancy leave after I have the baby, I can at least walk on the treadmill while the baby sleeps/is not screaming.

Am I being completely unrealistic in working out with a new born? What did you other mamas do after your baby was born?

Have you ever bought anything off Craigslist? Any tips?

Do you have a treadmill that you run on and would recommend?

Cheers!

No it is not unrealistic. I would of been back to working out earlier than I was but my workout area flooded then my DH took FOREVER to fix it and it was just kind of one issue after another. So things did not go my way. Here I am at almost 5 months postpartum and finally back to the grind.
With my first I was back to my normal routine just with a baby added into the mix at 6 weeks postpartum.
As a mom my advice is if you try to get back to things and it doesn’t work, just try again. And keep trying until you and your new LO find your groove. With babies there is nothing set in stone and you both are learning together how to make things work 🙂
I have used Craigslist for things with no problems. With my first I put her in a sling and walked on the treadmill while wearing her. (Just be sure to wear the safety thingy just incase)

BTW: That quilt is freaking awesome!

Thanks for the advice! It seems like I’m surrounded by Debbie downers all the time, “you won’t have time or the energy to work out once the baby is born”. It’s annoying to hear all the negative comments, but I love that you were able to get right back into the swing of things fairly quickly! It gives me hope! Thanks!

I have done the newborn thing twice now. The first couple weeks are hard, mainly because you are so freaking tired. But as long as you sleep when baby sleeps and you guys get into a good routine after that it isn’t really that terrible. I swear people just tell new moms about the horror stories of parenting. My LO was in his own crib and waking up only twice a night to eat by 8 weeks. I have fostered babies that are far more difficult. But, You adjust, that’s what us women do. It isn’t that bad.
People forget to tell you. Babies sleep A LOT in the beginning. Sleep when baby sleeps and you will be good to go 🙂
And if you need a break or a nap don’t hesitate to ask for help from a loved one or friend. It is amazing what an hour to yourself does for you once you have a LO 🙂

I’ve been researching working out with a newborn as well. Everyone keeps telling me that it’s a pipe dream, that I will never have the time or energy to exercise with a new baby in the house, but I’m determined to defy them all. I have a treadmill which will help, plus want to get out of the house every single day if possible even just for a walk around the block. Have heard you can do things like lunges and squats whilst baby is strapped to you in a harness carrier. And of course, when baby is asleep you can do things as well. Need to get a set of hand weights for myself I think.
